A talented group of young players will be joining Brentford Football Club on scholarships at the start of next season.

The Club has signed ten young players on scholarships, which run for the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, and one more is expected to sign soon.

They will be part of the Youth Team group next season and will look to progress to become professionals in the summer of 2016.

The majority have through the Brentford Football Club Academy to take the next step in their football careers.

The ten – Jordan Carey, Tom Roberts, Romayn Pennant, Chris Mepham, Kyjuon Marsh-Brown, Reece Cole, Anthony Guppy, Jeremiah Kamanzi, Courtney Austin and John Massala – signed last week while Seth Owens is set to sign in the next few days.

Many of the group already have experience at Youth Team level and some have played in the prestigious Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “This is a very strong group in terms of quality and potential.

“We have a good mix of goalkeepers, defenders, midfield players and attackers.

“Most of these players have played in the Youth Team and have shown as Under-16s they are good enough for that side.

“Many have also played in the Milk Cup and Jordan, Romayn, Reece and Courtney were in the team that won it last year.

“The job of the Academy is to produce First Team footballers.

“The first step for these boys is to play to a high standard in the Youth Team and continue to progress in all they do on and off the pitch.

“I hope many of them will then become professionals and continue to be part of the future of Brentford Football Club.”

Jordan and Tom are goalkeepers while Kyjuon is primarily a right back and Romayn is a left back.

Jordan has played one Under-18 Professional Development League game this season for the Youth Team while Kyjuon has played in three.

Central defender Seth has played five games for the Youth Team this term, including two in the FA Youth Cup, while Chris played three during a successful trial.

There are two central midfield players in the group – Reece, who has played six Youth Team games this season – one in the FA Youth Cup, and Anthony, known as Tony.

Midfield player Jeremiah has played two Youth Team games this term while striker Courtney has played four, one in the Youth Cup

John signed his scholarship after a successful trial that saw him play four Youth Team games and score once.

Ose said: “Jordan has been with us for two and a half years and was part of the Milk Cup winning squad while Tom has only just started playing in goal.

“Both will work with Lead Goalkeeper Coach Jani Viander and we can see how they progress.

“Romayn has been to two Milk Cups with us; he is a tenacious player, a great tackler and has a great deal of potential.

“Kyjuon was previously at Fulham, like his brother Keanu – who is now at Barnet.

“He is technically very good and is a good defender.

“Seth is a big, strong central defender; he is left sided and already has experience of playing in the FA Youth Cup.

“Chris has Brentford connections – his great uncle Roy was with the Club in the 1960s, below First Team level.

“He has been with us for four months, he is a local boy and has great attitude to go with his ability.

“Reece has been with us for two years; he has a great engine and has already performed well in Youth Team games as well as in the Milk Cup winning team.

“Tony is an attacking player with a great deal of potential, he is tough but with good technical ability and a lot of energy.

“Jeremiah can play on either wing or at full back; he has been with us for 18 months and is technically very good.

“Courtney is a Milk Cup winner who has been with us for three years, he is quick and he scores goals.

“John is a new recruit; he is a hard-working striker with a lot of potential.

“I hope all our supporters will get to know these names as they progress at the Club.”
