Brentford B winger Michael Olakigbe has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The 19-year-old has extended his stay until 2028 with a club option of one additional year.

Olakigbe has made four appearances in the Premier League so far this season, coming off the bench for his league debut against Bournemouth in September this year.

He made his senior debut for the club a few days before the match with the Cherries as he started the Carabao Cup win over Newport County.    The winger joined Brentford B from Fulham in the summer of 2022 and went on to play 27 times for the young Bees in his debut campaign, helping them to lift the Premier League Cup at Gtech Community Stadium.

After an impressive first season in red and white, Olakigbe then linked up with Thomas Frank’s squad for the pre-season tour to the USA before finding himself in Premier League matchday squads on a regular basis in recent months.

Olakigbe is also a youth international for England and has represented the men's Elite League squad in recent months as he featured in matches against Romania and Portugal in October this year.

On Olakigbe extending his stay with the club, Brentford director of football Phil Giles said: “Michael came into the club as a B-team player and has made excellent progress over the last 18 months.

"He has trained consistently with the first team since pre-season and earned his opportunities on the pitch in the Premier League.

"He is a really good person who is working hard to improve his game, and I’m very pleased we’ve managed to add more years to his contract to give him and us as much time as we need to make him the best possible player he can be.”
