Now into his second season with Brentford B, Ashley Hay has cemented himself as a regular starter in Neil MacFarlane’s side.
Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League Cup clash with Chelsea Under-21s, Hay spoke about his favourite goal for the Bees, the best banter in the squad, and more in this new edition of Brentford Buzz.
Favourite goal you’ve scored for Brentford?
At home in the Premier League Cup against Burnley when my family were there. Benji [Arthur] played the ball over the top, I thought the defender was going to get it, but he didn’t.
Then I went through one-on-one and scored, so that was a good one.
Describe your play style in one word.
Hungry.
What did you do before joining Brentford B?
First of all, I was at McDonalds working and I was playing in a Step 5 team called Baldock, playing there, having fun, scoring goals.
Then I got moved to Biggleswade Town, who were a Step 4 team and, at that time, I’d just started plumbing.
Then I was at Hitchin Town, still plumbing. Then I got a message from the head of recruitment at Brentford asking if I’d like to come down for a trial - and the rest is history!
Who would you least want on a job site with you?
Kyreece Lisbie: he’s clueless, absolutely clueless!
Who’s got the biggest social media presence?
Shieldsy, my boy Ollie Shield. Loves a bit of TikTok, he loves all of it.
Who’s got the best banter in the squad?
I’ll give it to Benji, I’ll give him that one.
Who’s the biggest poser in front of the camera?
My boy Max Dickov, loves the camera!
