Goals from Halil Dervişoğlu and Tariqe Fosu were not enough to prevent Brentford slipping to defeat against Luton Town in a behind closed doors friendly this afternoon. The Bees took the lead twice against Luton at Kenilworth Road but were pegged back on both occasions. And Luton then won the game with two late goals.
The Bees went ahead 15 minutes in as Dervişoğlu scored from close range. Fosu set it up with work on the right and Dominic Thompson exchanged passes with Joel Valencia before the ball fell to Dervişoğlu to finish. The Bees had gone close before that after starting the game well with Thompson firing over and a cross from Mads Roerslev causing the hosts some problems.
But Brentford were pegged back from Luton’s first attack of note. A ball was played in to the box by Izzy Brown and James Collins volleyed past Luke Daniels. Collins could have scored again before the interval, heading over from close range, but the teams were level at the break. The Bees were looking to play the ball around the home defence and went ahead just after the break as they continued to dominate the ball.
Once again, the goal came from work on the right. This time Roerslev delivered a cross that James Shea couldn’t get fully away, Valencia put the ball back in to the danger zone and Fosu was there to scored. But once again, The Bees couldn’t build on their lead and this time Luton took complete control.
It could have been different if Luke Racic had headed fractionally lower but once Luton got the game back to 2-2, they had command. The home side levelled when Callum McManaman scored after getting on to a Ryan Tunnicliffe pass and went ahead when Danny Hylton headed home from a corner. They sealed a 4-2 win when Hylton set up Luke Bolton to slot past Daniels.
