Brentford progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday - and teenager Romelle Donovan impressed on his first-ever start for the Bees.

Mathias Jensen's free-kick was turned home by Keane Lewis-Potter to put the visitors a goal up at the break, and the Dane thumped home a penalty in the second half to secure the Londoners’ safe passage to the next round.

The Bees will discover their fourth-round opponents in Monday night's draw.

Heavily involved in the action on his first start, Donovan won the penalty that led to the Bees' decisive second goal, and his enthusiasm and positivity earned post-match praise from head coach Keith Andrews.

Signed on a permanent deal last summer, after an initial loan spell with Brentford B, the 19-year-old has wasted no time in forcing his way into the first-team picture, and he was a livewire as the Bees successfully negotiated a tricky tie against the Owls.

Patrolling the right flank, Donovan was a thorn in the Championship club's side and was involved in plenty of the match highlights.

The England Under-19s international completed more successful dribbles (three) than any player on the pitch and drew more fouls (three), as the Bees attacked with intent throughout. In total, the west Londoners fired in 20 shots during an impressive showing - 11 of those on target - and generated a hefty 3.8 xG.

Donovan's curling cross was headed against the bar by Lewis-Potter as the Bees fired an early warning across Wednesday’s bows, and the exciting young prospect’s energy was allied to end product.

Only Jensen (five) supplied more key passes than Donovan (three), who also came close to bagging a goal himself, though he failed to connect properly after chesting down Lewis-Potter's cross in the box in the second period.

Aside from what he showed on the ball, Donovan's physicality and desire were illustrated by him contesting and winning more duels than any other player on either side as well.

Still unbeaten in 2026, there were plenty of other positives for the Bees to take from a professional display. Reiss Nelson clocked up 70 lively minutes, which included a fierce strike that left the Owls' crossbar shaking, while Jordan Henderson and Mikkel Damsgaard sprayed some beautiful passes around in midfield.

Ethan Pinnock also slotted back in with aplomb at centre-back, racking up more accurate passes (90) than any other player, as Brentford chalked up a seventh clean sheet across all competitions.

Although plenty of players impressed, it was Jensen who scooped Playmaker's Man of the Match award. Aside from his goal and assist, the Dane's intelligence and distribution were outstanding all afternoon.

The 30-year-old playmaker's long game was particularly impressive, with Jensen pinging a perfect eight out of eight accurate long balls to showcase his fantastic passing range.

With some players gaining valuable game time and new faces seizing opportunities, the Bees marched on in the cup. A return to Premier League business beckons against Chelsea on Saturday.
