Brentford saw their unbeaten Premier League home record ended by goal machine Erling Haaland when they faced Manchester City on Sunday.

The prolific Norwegian struck his ninth top-flight goal of the season to earn the Cityzens a 1-0 win and all three points, leaving Bees head coach Keith Andrews asking, "How many centre-forwards in world football score the goal he scored?".

Some sustained late pressure did not yield an equaliser for the hosts, but Andrews took positives from his side's display - and a solid 90 minutes from his goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher was certainly among them.

After a crucial penalty save in Brentford's 3-1 win over City's rivals Manchester United, Kelleher delivered arguably his most accomplished all-round performance to date for the Bees. Haaland's fizzing finish after nine minutes was the only blot on his copybook.

In his final match before joining up with the Republic of Ireland squad for World Cup qualifying games against Portugal and Armenia, Kelleher made three saves to City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's one, and collected two high claims as he showed quality and composure throughout the contest.

The pick of Kelleher's saves was a reaction stop in the first half to deny Tijjani Reijnders, with the 26-year-old goalkeeper palming the Dutch midfielder's full-blooded volley to safety.

Kelleher is one of only three top-flight stoppers to save a penalty this term (along with Everton's Jordan Pickford and Sunderland's Robin Roefs), and his long-range distribution has also stood out. Only Pickford (74) has played more accurate long passes than the Irishman (54) this term, and Kelleher (39 per cent) leads all Premier League goalkeepers for completion rate on passes over 40 yards this season.

Signed in the summer to succeed Mark Flekken between the sticks, Kelleher recently stated that his understanding with his team-mates is getting "stronger and stronger" - and his performance against City supported the hypothesis.

Pep Guardiola's visitors proved hard to kick out of their stride in the opening half but Brentford upped their game after the interval, and the right-sided defensive pairing of Kristoffer Ajer and Michael Kayode merits a mention.

On his 100th Brentford appearance, Ajer defended resolutely while threatening from set-pieces and the Norwegian racked up some solid defensive numbers - notably topping the charts for most tackles won (three) for the Bees.

Kayode, meanwhile, delivered a tenacious performance down the flank. Secure in possession, with a 94 per cent pass completion rate, the Italian enjoyed a ding-dong battle with Savinho, Nico O'Reilly and Jérémy Doku late on.

The right-back made more clearances (four) than any Brentford player and also offered a threat in the attacking third - the 21-year-old climbed superbly to meet a Kevin Schade cross in the second half, but was unable to direct his header on target.

With positives to take despite defeat, Andrews and his side will now fix their attention on the trio of October fixtures beyond the international break.

A London derby, a crack at the Premier League champions, and a great chance to reach a cup quarter-final - there's plenty to look forward to this month.
