Brentford Under-19s were defeated 5-1 by Hanwell Town in a pre-season friendly under the lights at Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium.

Four first-half goals from the home side made it a difficult task for the young Bees, who showed resilience in the second period to put in an improved performance, with Trialist C getting on the scoresheet.

The Geordies took the lead in the second minute, when Eddie Cooper met an in-swinging corner at the back post and powered his header home.

The Bees suffered the same fate on seven minutes when they struggled to clear another corner from the left and George Knight poked home through the tangle of bodies.

It was three for Hanwell a minute later as Zak Joseph rounded Connor Wolfheimer to make it a tough opening 10 minutes for Brentford.

Wolfheimer made an excellent fingertip save on 22 minutes to deny a curling strike from the edge of the box, but the home side scored their fourth 10 minutes later when Knight looped a header into the back of the net following another corner for his second of the game.

Chris Burke's side came out much better in terms of intensity and physicality in the second half, substitute keeper Layton Nicholls making a good save from a header early on.

The Bees found a goal on 63 minutes through Trialist C. Jai Bansoodeb pinched the ball back in midfield, rode two tackles and slipped in the winger on the left-hand side of the box. He cut inside and curled his effort into the bottom corner brilliantly.

Bansoodeb then played Jovan Kasujja through with 20 minutes to play but the striker just lifted his effort too high and over the crossbar.

Josh Oladapo-Gamu's cross was met by Trialist D but held by the Hanwell keeper minutes later as Brentford tried to claw their way back in to the game.

Nicholls made a superb save on 75 minutes as the ball fell to Andrio Brandao inside the six-yard box. The Bees keeper sprang across his line to get a strong hand on the half-volleyed effort.

Coran Madden had the ball stolen from his feet by the Hanwell goalkeeper just as he was about to let fly after a clever touch with his chest put him into the penalty area following a cross from the right flank.

Hanwell had a fifth to wrap the game up on 87 minutes - Nicholls made another outstanding save to deny the first effort, but couldn't keep out the rebound which Harvey Bradbury tucked into the far post.

It was a tough physical test for a young Brentford side, but one that will provide plenty of lessons ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
