Brentford Under-18s were defeated 3-2 by FC Copenhagen Under-17s in Denmark on Saturday afternoon.

Beau Redknapp opened the scoring for the visitors, before the hosts fired three goals in a row past the west Londoners. Jacob Hanson then netted his first goal for the club late in the second half on his return from injury.

Copenhagen started prominently and caused Brentford goalkeeper Felix Lyon to be called into action early.

The young Bees number one made a good save inside three minutes and was forced to do the same three minutes later as Geovanni Ndjee had a look on goal near the penalty spot.

Following a strong start from Copenhagen, the west Londoners grew into the game and began to enjoy some promising possession without being able to trouble the opposition goal.

That changed on 23 minutes. Redknapp drove through the middle of the pitch, continuing to take the space available to him. As he approached the box he fired at goal, Copenhagen goalkeeper Jakov Kovcalija spilling the ball after getting hands to it, allowing the ball to cross the line for the opener.

Five minutes later Lyon was called into action again, this time to save Ndjee’s header from a dangerous cross from the right side.

As Redknapp had done earlier, Jai Bansoodeb enjoyed a free run through the middle of the pitch as the half hour mark passed, however his strike was left of the goal.

Soon after the hosts had an equaliser, Sheikh Jaw breaking forward and scoring with a nice finish.

Out of half time the young Bees started promisingly. Great build up play saw Micaiah Fanoiki break free and cross to Coran Madden at the back post, his header into the middle of the box finding Enrique Roca whose shot was interrupted.

After the hour mark Redknapp found himself with a free shot on goal outside the box after Brentford won the ball back high up the pitch, but his strike was kept out by Philip Thomsen diving to his left.

Despite a strong start to the half from the west Londoners, it was the hosts who went ahead, Gabriel Santos scoring after a great cross from the right side.

Hanson followed Redknapp’s effort soon after as he fired at goal from the edge of the box, the ball sailing just over the bar.

Copenhagen had their third soon after, Simon Voin tapping it home from another strong cross.

Despite the scoreboard being against them, Brentford continued to play aggressively. They were rewarded just before full-time, Hanson tapping the ball home off the rebound to make it 3-2.

The young Bees now turn their attention to QPR away next weekend in the Professional Development League Cup.
