Andre Gray said his confidence, and that of the Brentford team, had grown enormously thanks to three wins in seven days.
The Bees picked up a third win in a week at The Den yesterday, beating Millwall 3-2.
Andre scored Brentford’s first two goals and then set up the winner, claimed by Harlee Dean but officially recorded as a Danny Shittu own goal.
Brentford have responded to defeat to Bolton Wanderers at the end of last month with consecutive victories over Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Millwall.
Andre, speaking after yesterday’s win, said the Derby win had given the side a massive boost and his goal in that win, curled in first time from the edge of the penalty area, now gave him the confidence to put chances away.
“I’m buzzing,” he said.
“After the defeat at Bolton not many people would have expected us to take nine points from the next three games.
“We have been outstanding.
“The second half against Derby gave us a massive boost and showed what we could do.
“It gave us belief.
“To go to Forest on Wednesday and dominate like we did gave us massive confidence coming here that if we do things right we will get three points.
“Every striker thrives on confidence.
“I said last week I needed a chance where I didn’t have time to think.
“Now I am getting chances were I have more time and am confident in putting them away.
“I have been working on keeping the shots low; trying to slot them home and did that today.”
Andre’s first goal came just before half time, he picked up an Alex Pritchard pass and slotted under Millwall goalkeeper David Forde.
He said he had tried to do similar at Forest on Wednesday just after he scored in that match but was denied by the goalkeeper.
Andre’s second goal was placed past Forde after Alan Judge had won the ball and set him free.
Andre also had a goal ruled out for offside and pulled a shot wide when well-placed, as well as setting up the winner.
“I tried to finish on Wednesday like I did today for my first goal,” said the striker.
“That time he got his bum down and it went over the bar.
“Today it went my way, through his legs and in.
“It was a great ball by Alan Judge for the second, a perfect weight for me and it was a case of putting it in an area the goalkeeper couldn’t get to.
“I slotted it in.
“I thought I was unfortunate not to get a hat-trick.”
After Brentford went 2-0 up Millwall responded and scored two in around 90 seconds to level it up.
The home crowd got behind their side but Brentford found a way to take control again.
Andre hailed his team’s character to produce that response.
“It was hard,” he said.
“I was up front and couldn’t really help.
“They put us under a lot of pressure.
“They will get chances and today we made a few mistakes and these things happen.
“We kept going, came back and dominated the game still.
“We knew Millwall could come from behind, the crowd can intimidate and that can turn a game.
“We showed massive character to overcome that, get the goal and not let it happen again.”
Andre picked up a Jon Toral pass to cross for the third goal and said he though Dean should be given it.
“It was good for Harlee to win the header,” said Andre.
“Jon slid me in and I tried to put the ball in an area for Harlee to get on the end of it.
“Luckily it went in.
“I would give the goal to Harlee; I am not 100 per cent sure.”
Andre described his four-goal week as a massive one for him.
He added the team was full of confidence and knew they could recover after conceding goals.
“It has been a massive week for me,” he said.
“It will give me confidence to know I can score regularly in the Championship.
“I went through a little drought but it is a massive learning curve.
“It will probably happen again, hopefully not as long, but I will know how to deal with it.
“As a team we are full of confidence.
“Even if we concede we can get on the ball and make things happen.”
Brentford will not play next weekend due to international fixtures.
Their next match is against Fulham on November 21.
“Obviously we want to keep playing,” said Andre.
“I think the whole team would love to play Fulham on Tuesday.
“But it is good to get a rest, get the legs fully recovered, come back and hit the ground running.”
