Andre Gray said Brentford showed “unbelievable character” to respond after conceding a goal late in the first half and beat Blackburn Rovers yesterday.
The Bees dominated the first half and went ahead through Jonathan Douglas.
But they were pegged back late in the first half when a Rudy Gestede volley deflected in.
Brentford, however, came again after half time – Andre restored the lead and Jota sealed the win with a third goal.
It was Brentford’s sixth win in seven Sky Bet Championship matches and Andre said it was needed after a loss away at Huddersfield Town last week.
He said they were continuing to prove to the world, and many not taking The Bees seriously, how good they were.
“We needed the win after last week, when we were a bit unlucky,” said the striker, speaking to Bees Player after the win.
“We came out and proved again what a good team we are.
“Being level at half time is the sort of thing that can happen in the Championship.
“Rudy Gestede got a chance and a bit of luck and that can happen.
“You can dominate and concede goals and maybe that doesn’t happen so much in League One and League Two.
“We showed unbelievable character to not let it affect us in the second half.
“The message at half time was to continue to do what we were doing.
“We needed a break to settle it down.
“We had to make sure we didn’t hit the panic button.”
Andre’s goal came ten minutes in to the second half.
He took a Jota ball down on his chest and turned but failed to connect with his first shot.
He did, however, recover quickly to poke the ball in.
“My goal was a bit scrappy,” admitted Andre.
“As I went to hit it I got a nudge, not enough for a penalty but it put me off.
“Luckily it dropped to me again and I hit the target and it went in.
“We needed the third goal afterwards.
“They have proven goal scorers and it would have been tight at the end if it was 2-1.
“But 3-1 meant we could be in cruise control by 85 minutes.”
Andre was up against two powerful central defenders, as he was in the defeat at Huddersfield last week.
He said he needed a bit of luck for his goal as Blackburn had come with five in midfield looking to stop Brentford playing.
“I actually found it a bit easier last week,” said Andre.
“It is difficult if we are under pressure and the ball is being lumped up for me to fight for.
“I know I won’t win every ball.
“I need to make life difficult and hope something breaks for me.
“It happened today with the goal; I just needed a bit of luck.
“I don’t think I would have scored otherwise, with their team set up in the way it was.
“It is funny to read in the press that they are better than us but they changed their team.
“As long as people keep criticising us like that I don’t mind, we keep coming out on top.”
Andre said the Brentford players had read a pre-match article by former Blackburn striker Simon Garner, who described Griffin Park as a League One ground and said if the visiting players matched The Bees for effort and commitment they would win as they were better players.
“We were reading someone from Blackburn talking about Brentford as a small club in a League One ground,” continued the striker
“He described us as a solid team with no stars and if Blackburn matched us they would beat us as they have better players.
“We are sitting here 3-1 having dominated.
“It just drives us on.”
Andre hailed the way Brentford bounced back from losing last week.
“We have shown that after a loss we come back and win,” he said.
“It shows the character, we never get disheartened, we don’t change what we do, we know we will lose games.
“We need to be as consistent as possible, if we win three or four on the trot and then lose one we will get automatic promotion.”
