Andre Gray was left frustrated and disappointed after Brentford let a 1-0 lead slip to lose 2-1 at home to Cardiff City on Saturday.
The Brentford striker gave Mark Warburton’s side a first-half lead with his 14th goal of the season in all competitions as he reacted first to poke home from close range.
The Bluebirds turned the game on its head in 15 second-half minutes as Federico Macheda and Alex Revell netted to put Russell Slade’s side ahead.
Despite being reduced to nine-men by the end of the match the visitors held on to secure the three points.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Andre felt The Bees handed the advantage to Cardiff with the two avoidable second-half goals.
“We are very frustrated and disappointed as well after going in 1-0 up and dominating the game,” said Andre.
“We wanted to do the same thing after half-time but the first goal killed us.
“It was a mistake and then we were pressing high-up and they have caught us on the break with one long ball.
“There was a bit of confusion with David Button coming out and then, after that, they were always going to sit in.
“It was hard to break through as we tried to nick a goal.
“After they scored they had something to hold on to.
“They were happy to come here for the draw especially after going 1-0 down.
“The way that we were playing in the first-half meant it was always going to be difficult for them.”
The visitors were reduced to nine-men by the end of the match as former Brentford loanee Kadeem Harris saw red for a tackle on Alan Judge and Macheda picked up a second yellow card late on.
The Bees laid siege to the Cardiff goal in the closing stages but couldn’t find a way past Simon Moore or his defence.
Andre admitted it was tough to break down a side who put everyone behind the ball in the latter stages and broke up The Bees tempo of play.
“In the first-half there was only us in it in terms of clear cut chances,” said Andre.
“We were comfortable but there is always that risk when you are only 1-0 up and that showed today.
“It was up to us to raise the tempo.
“We are at our best when we do things quickly whether that’s corners, throw ins or free-kicks.
“It was difficult because Cardiff City have quality players who know what they are doing and are well organised and it worked for them today.
“They went down to 10 men and put everyone behind the ball and then when they went down to nine it was just us against them with nine players behind the ball.
“That was difficult to break down and if we had carried on how we were playing we would just have gone from side to side.
“We were hoping that something would drop for us but it wasn’t to be today.”
Despite the defeat Brentford remain sixth in the Sky Bet Championship, a point about seventh placed Ipswich Town with nine matches remaining.
Next up for The Bees is a trip to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday before Saturday’s home game against struggling Millwall.
Andre feels that there are still plenty of points to play for and plenty of twists and turns to be had.
The former Luton Town man said he is looking to get back to winning ways away at Blackburn on Tuesday night.
“It is more frustrating now because we are at the back end of the season and we have only got nine games to go,” said Andre.
“If we could have won today it would have taken us a bit further away from Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“We couldn’t do that but hopefully we can put it right on Tuesday and on Saturday.
“There are still nine games to go and I don’t think anyone is going to win all nine games.
“People are still going to drop points and the teams around us still have to play each other.
“We are still there and hopefully teams will drop points and we can kick on now and get a good run going.”
