Andre Gray said Brentford’s players were happy with their win away to Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday.
But he admitted there were some disappointing aspects that they needed to work on.
Andre scored the only goal as The Bees completed a Sky Bet Championship double over Brighton with the win.
Brighton were reduced to ten men in the second half – Brentford had lots of good chances that they failed to convert and the home side had opportunities to snatch a share of the spoils.
Andre, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said Brentford could have managed the game better.
“It may sound surprising, but we are disappointed,” said the striker.
“We are disappointed we did not win the game by three or four and we are disappointed with how we managed the game.
“We needed to be better, especially when they went down to ten men.
“We should have dominated, we took a few liberties.
“We were a bit naïve.
“But we are happy with the three points and the fact we are disappointed shows the character of the team.”
Andre said Brentford got the game they expected against Brighton.
The home side sat deep and allowed Brentford to play in front of them.
They did the same in an FA Cup tie at Griffin Park earlier this month and then scored two late goals.
Andre said Brentford needed to punish their hosts when they had ten, and especially when they had nine when Craig Mackail-Smith was off the field receiving treatment.
He said The Bees would learn from it.
“That was our third game against Brighton, they know how we play,” said the striker.
“I like to go in behind so that might be why they dropped deeper.
“They beat us two weeks ago but we managed to get the win today.
“We just have to be a little bit better.
“They had nine men at one point and we didn’t punish them.
“We will manage it better if it happens again.
“We will learn.
“We have three points away from home and to have a slight negative feeling on a day like this is a good thing.”
The winning goal came just before the half hour.
Stuart Dallas got in behind on the left and crossed, Andre’s shot deflected in.
“It is my goal, it was on target,” said the striker.
“It took a deflection and looped in.
“I didn’t get the cleanest contact but it was on target.
“They all count, that is all that matters.
“It means a lot to score the winner, I am glad to help the team get the points.”
Andre scored seven goals in eight games before Christmas but had not scored since.
“A few games without a goal wasn’t a problem,” he said.
“Earlier in the season I went eight games without a goal then scored seven in eight.
“It was never a problem.
“I was getting chances; I had one disallowed last week.
“That was positive, if I get chances every week I will score.”
It took his Sky Bet Championship tally to ten for the season and 11 in all competitions.
“I believe my target as a striker should be to score in every match,” said Andre.
“I don’t set up to set 20 or 30 I want to score every game.
“I am in to double figures now but I want to try and score every game.”
Andre also praised the Brentford supporters as almost 3,000 headed south for the match.
“The fans were fantastic,” he said.
“We need that to drive on.
“When we needed to dig in we could hear them spurring us on.
“They have helped us get a few wins, long may it continue.”
