George Saville said it was great that Brentford managed to grind out an ugly win against Walsall on Saturday.
Clayton Donaldson scored the only goal as The Bees made it three wins from three home games.
George, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the final whistle, said Walsall made life difficult, as did heavy rain, but Brentford played well in the first half and ground it out in the second.
“It was a difficult game in difficult conditions but a win is a win,” said George.
“Personally I felt I got on the ball well in the first half.
“We kept the ball well as a team and moved it.
“Second half we were on the back foot.
“They put pressure on us and it was difficult to play.
“An ugly win is still a win, it was great to get three points.
“First half we played our game and got the goal.
“They caused us problems but we were the better side.
“As the game came on they came at us a bit more and we had to grind out a win.
“The back four were tremendous, really solid.
“The last 20 was difficult and we didn't deal with the second balls well but apart from that we did well.”
Scott Barron also spoke to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the final whistle.
Scott came in at left back against Walsall as Jake Bidwell was unavailable due to injury and started his first Football League game since last November, having missed much of last season with a hip problem.
He said he was pleased to come through 90 minutes and delighted with three points and a clean sheet.
“I am pleased overall,” said Scott.
“To come back in my first league game, where points really matter, to have the trust put in me and to come through 90 minutes with a win and a clean sheet, I am delighted.
“I tried to do my job.
“The pitch was heavy and I was cramping up in the last ten minutes.
“It was harder than I expected and I am pleased to get through it.
“I don’t think we played particularly well as a team, if we are honest, but a 1-0 win when you’re not playing well is an ideal scenario.
“I was pleased to get the opportunity to play and we’ll see where we go from there.”
Scott said it would take him a few games to get to his best and for Brentford fans to see the attacking full back he can be.
He said he could have gone forward more against Walsall but some of his runs helped create space for Adam Forshaw.
Scott said his performance was OK considering it was his first full league game for many months.
“I could have gone forward a bit more,” he said.
“I was playing with Adam and he naturally goes inside.
“My runs help him do that.
“I don’t mind doing it.
“Second half I couldn’t do it as much.
“I held on in and stuck it out to the end.
“I am naturally an attacking full back but I need a run of games to get my best form.
“If I can get that I think I can do better than I did today.
“It was a solid, average performance but not bad for my first game back.”
Scott said he was impressed by Walsall and the difference between the teams was in the final third.
“I was impressed with the way Walsall played,” he said.
“It was nice to see.
“They played in the right way, they passed it, they kept going.
“Maybe the difference was the killer instinct up top.
“The teams that can add a cutting edge will do well.”
One black spot on Brentford’s day was an injury to Conor McAleny.
The loanee, at Griffin Park on a temporary basis from Everton, cut in off the left and prepared to shoot when Adam Chambers came in with a sliding tackle.
Conor came off worse and, after five minutes of treatment, had to be taken off.
George said his thoughts were with the attacker and Scott added Brentford’s players were all concerned about him.
“It is a good tackle,” said Gorge.
“Things like that happen.
“It is a real shame for the team, he is a good player.
“My thoughts go out to him.”
Scott added: “We all thought about Conor when he was being taken off and after the game.
“You have to put it to the back of your mind during the match.
“If you let your mind wander the opposition can take advantage.
“We are very concerned, he is a terrific footballer”
Brentford’s next match is a Capital One Cup Second Round tie against Derby County on Tuesday night.
George said: “I want to play every game.
“I understand that I won’t play every game as my legs will be too tired but I want to play.
“If I can play every game I will give my all.”
Scott added: “I don’t know what the gaffer has planned.
“I would like to play.
“It will be a good test on a big pitch and a nice surface against a good team.
“I will be ready to go.”
