Alex Pritchard said Brentford deserved their first Sky Bet Championship win of the season at Blackpool and hailed the way the side ground out the result.
The Bees came from behind to win 2-1 in Lancashire on Tuesday night.
Blackpool scored early when Nathan Delfouneso headed in but Alex scored the equaliser before half time.
Stuart Dallas put Brentford in front just after the break and that was enough to secure the win.
Alex, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said Brentford dropped too deep after going ahead.
It meant The Bees had to defend well to secure the win.
“We deserved the three points,” said Alex.
“We could have scored more goals
“Everyone is tired, after the last 30 minutes.
“I don’t think we realised how much space we had.
“The crowd got on top but we defended well.
“They had chances but we will take the points.
“We were brilliant for 50 or 60 minutes but dropped deeper when we should have stayed higher.
“These things happen and we ground out a great result.
“They scored a goal early on and we had to keep going.
“We got ours and the momentum changed.
“We came in at half time and were saying we wanted to carry on playing.
“Stuart got the goal and we dropped deep.
“We shouldn’t have done that but we will learn and go again.”
Alex got his goal late in the first half.
Alan Judge spread the play and Moses Odubajo fed it inside.
Alex took a touch, turned and fed the ball in to the bottom corner.
It was his first goal in The Championship and his first for Brentford.
“I took a touch and the defender backed off,” said Alex, describing it.
“I reacted to that and hit it.
“It went in the bottom corner.
“When I looked the defender was blocking the goalkeeper’s view.
“There was a gap and I knew if I hit it to the side of him it would go in.
“As soon as I hit it I knew it was in.
“It is my first Championship goal and there are more to come.”
Brentford started the game with four attacking midfield players behind striker Nick Proschwitz.
Full backs Jake Bidwell and Alan McCormack were also encouraged to get forward.
“Everyone believes in what we are doing,” said Alex.
“We play free-flowing football and get in to great areas.
“We have to keep practicing and it will come.
“We will win games.
“We were never going to come here and sit back.
“We can play good football and will score goals.
“There is no point in sitting back.”
The win was Brentford’s first at this level since 1993.
They have started 2014/15 with a draw against Charlton Athletic and defeat to AFC Bournemouth
“We will get a lift from the win,” said Alex.
“We were unlucky not to get at least a point at Bournemouth.
“It is good to get the points, especially the way we ground it out.
“You could see on everybody’s faces how pleased they were.”
Alex also had praise for the support of almost 500 travelling Brentford fans.
“It is brilliant,” he said.
“You zone in to the game but you can hear them.
“We could hear them even though we went behind.
“We are glad we got three points for them.”
