Alex Pritchard said Brentford had to bounce back from conceding a last minute equaliser against Derby County.
The Bees looked set for a win at the iPro Stadium when they led in stoppage time.
Alex scored Brentford’s goal in the first half but Darren Bent got on to a miss-hit shot from Jeff Hendrick to score in the third minute of stoppage time to give Derby a point.
Alex admitted it was not good to concede a late goal but said The Bees had to recover ahead of their next game, away to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, April 14.
The midfield man said late goals and missed chances were things that happened in the game and Brentford should take the positives from their performance.
“To come here and play like we did, lead for as long as we did [was great] and to concede in the last minute is not good,” said Alex, speaking to Bees Player.
“But we have a big game Tuesday and we have to bounce back.
“We had chances and should have put them away.
“That can happen.
“Conceding at the end is not good but we tried to play to the last minute.”
Derby started the game well but Brentford took control and went ahead just before the half hour.
Alex said The Bees didn’t reach their high standards in the first half but dominated the second.
“We knew they would start quickly but I thought we bossed it,” he said.
“We weren’t at the races for the first ten to 15 minutes and for the whole first half we weren’t as good as we can be.
“We dominated the second half.
“We counter attacked well and we should have come away with three points.
“We wanted to go up another gear in the second half and we did that.
“We could have been two or three up but it wasn’t to be.”
Alex’s goal, his tenth of the season, came when he picked up an Alan Judge pass.
He cut inside Richard Keogh and curled an effort just inside the far post.
“I got the ball and came inside, I just hit it and it went in,” said Alex.
“I’m really pleased with it.
“I just bent it in.”
The draw leaves Brentford seventh in the Sky Bet Championship table.
They are behind sixth-placed Ipswich Town on goal difference and only a point adrift of Derby, who are fifth.
Alex said Brentford were only concentrating on themselves but knew they needed as many points as possible to secure a Play-Off spot.
“We have played really good football against a team everyone thought should get promoted at the start of the season,” he said.
“We dominated and are playing fantastically at the moment.
“We have to keep doing it to the end of the season and hopefully we will be in the Play-Off spots.
“We need the points but we aren’t looking at exactly what we need to finish in a certain position.
“We want to get as many points as we can.
“Teams around us have some tough games, we have to focus on ourselves.
“If we keep playing like that we will get goals and points.
“Our home form hasn’t been as good as we would have liked and we need to win those games at home.”
