Alex Pritchard said Brentford’s players were gutted to lose 3-0 in their Sky Bet Championship match against Norwich City.
The Bees conceded three goals in 15 seconds half minutes to fall to defeat at Griffin Park last night.
Brentford had the better of the first half without scoring and then conceded a goal midway through the second half when James Tarkowski played a loose pass and Norwich punished The Bees efficiently.
Alex, speaking after the match, said an event minutes later was a pivotal moment.
The attacking midfield player picked up a Moses Odubajo pass, darted in to the box and was brought down by Jos Hooiveld but referee Tim Robinson waved the appeals away and Norwich went straight down the other end and scored.
They grabbed a third soon after to make the win look more convincing than it was.
“We are gutted,” said Alex.
“To concede three goals in the way we did was disappointing.
“But we also feel the referee played a part.
“We should have had a penalty, if we score that it is 1-1 and it’s game on.
“Nothing is going for us at the moment.
“We are getting nothing but we will move on.”
Alex gave his thoughts on the incident.
“I ran in to the box, Moses slipped me through,” he said.
“I saw the defender coming, chopped it back and he caught me.
“I couldn’t stay on my feet.
“It was a penalty.
“That’s all I can say.
“We were always in the game until the second goal.
“We have to do better; we have to learn when a decision doesn’t go our way.
“We will move on.”
Alex said there were plenty of positives to take.
“I thought we played some really good football,” he said.
“Some of their players said we’d destroy teams.
“Norwich are one of the favourites to go up and they did not get an easy ride.
“They have scored three so we have to move on.
“At half time we wanted to go back out and play how we were.
“They got a corner and shot but we managed to do it after a while.
“Then they got their goal.”
Alex said Norwich’s first goal came from a mistake that would happen to a team with young players trying to play the way Brentford want to.
He said The Bees would learn and now looked to move on to their next match, away at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
“That won’t be the last mistake we make,” he said.
“We will learn from them.
“James Tarkowski is only young, so am I, so are lots of the players.
“He made a mistake but has been brilliant.
“He has a great character and will move on from it.
“We will go on to Middlesbrough and look forward.
“Hopefully we can get three points.
“We will go there and put on a performance.”
Alex spent the international break with England’s Under-21 side.
He played his first two games at that level, as a substitute against Lithuania and Moldova.
Alex said it had taken something out of him but was a great experience.
He added he had to learn how to use that time and recover for the league campaign.
“It was a great experience, to play for your country and be away with good players,” said Alex.
“It took it out of me and I thought I was a bit leggy at the weekend.
“I thought I was back to my standard tonight.
“I will learn from it.
“It was great and I have to recover properly.”
