Alan McCormack said Brentford “fully deserved” their 3-0 win against Preston North End.
The Bees stretched their unbeaten run to ten Sky Bet League One matches with the win at Deepdale and have now won nine of those.
They went ahead midway through the first half when Adam Forshaw converted a penalty and made it two soon after through Marcello Trotta.
David Button saved a second half penalty before Sam Saunders made it three with a fine late goal.
Alan, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said there was a happy dressing room after the win.
He said Brentford knew Preston would try to rough them up but Brentford dealt with it.
“We deserved it and there are a happy bunch of lads in the dressing room,” said Alan.
“We worked extremely hard.
“We were very solid and hard working.
“Today wasn’t about coming here, looking pretty and passing them off the pitch.
“We knew they would bring a long ball battle and try and rough us up.
“We dealt with that and fully deserved the win.
“In the second half, especially, we kept the ball for long periods.
“We saw the game out in great areas on the pitch.
“We were under pressure for periods at the start of the second half but we showed our experience and how much we have come forward to see it out.
“Long may this run continue.”
Alan said Brentford knew Preston would look to play through former England centre forward Kevin Davies and praised central defenders Harlee Dean and Tony Craig for dealing with him, along with Jonathan Douglas, the deepest lying central midfield player.
He said it was a physical game and Brentford tried to stop giving away too many fouls in the second half, limiting balls in to their box.
“Everyone knows what Kevin Davies can offer,” said Alan.
“We have all watched him through his career.
“Everything he does is about physicality.
“Harlee and Tony stood up to him and Dougie got involved.
“We all tried to help each other out.
“There were a lot of physical battles.
“They looked to get it in areas, get free kicks, get the ball in the box and score goals.
“At half time we tried to cut the free kicks out, we conceded too many just before half time.”
Brentford have conceded just four goals in their ten game unbeaten run, and two in their last eight League One games.
Right back Alan praised David Button for a vital penalty save and said it came at a crucial time.
He also hailed the work the players in front of him do to keep the opposition out.
“Butts has had a quiet time the past few days but he saved a penalty today,” said Alan.
“It all starts from the top, they work hard up there and that makes it easier for the back four.
“Butts stepped up when we needed him and saved a penalty.
“When the third went in we thought it was done.
“We did very well to keep a clean sheet against a tough side.”
Alan said no-one was getting carried away with the win, especially with games coming thick and fact.
The Bees play on Boxing Day, December 29 and New Year’s Day before a ten day break.
Alan said he would have a quiet Christmas, as all players did, but if The Bees got good results they would set themselves up for the rest of the season.
He said the Brentford squad strength would come in to its own over the next few days.
“We take each game as it comes and we are not getting carried away,” said Alan.
“We all know what Christmas is like and we want to come out of the other side in a great position for the rest of the season.
“Christmas is quiet for us.
“You get used to it as you get older.
“We play every three days, it takes its toll but we can bring players in and it doesn’t affect the quality.
“We have players on their bench dying for a chance and they will probably get it.
“They will be ready to take it.
“Everybody pushes each other in training.
“When you are confident you want the next game to come quickly.
“these games will set the tone for the rest of the season.
“If we get through with the target we set we have to believe we will take the title.”
Alan said Brentford’s [players believed they were good enough to win Sky Bet League One.
Following defeat to Stevenage in early October, and a frank team meeting that followed, Brentford were 14 points behind the leaders.
They are now just a point behind Leyton Orient and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“Considering the stuttering start and what happened at Stevenage, we would have taken this,” said Alan.
“We were 14 points off the top seven weeks ago I believe.
“We now have it down to a point.
“With the run we are on, beating top sides, we are starting to believe we can take the title.”
