Alan McCormack did not hide his feelings after he and his team mates were beaten 4-0 by Oxford United in the Capital One Cup Round tie at Griffin Park. The 31-year-old Irishman came on as a second half substitute for the injured Nico Yennaris and was frank in his assessment of the defeat.
“I think there are a lot of people that shouldn’t really forget this night,” said Alan. “They’ve got to out and have a look at their performance if they want to get in the First Team. We made a lot of changes tonight, but there are still a lot of players that are close to the First Team and to put in a performance like that is not acceptable at any level.
“I don’t think we can be happy with what we’ve seen tonight from the very first minute to the very last, we just weren’t good enough.”

“It should hurt on the pitch first,” said Alan. “You can’t come in off the pitch and have regrets. Everybody says it: leave the pitch with no regrets. We all make mistakes, we can all have a bad game but the minimum you need to put in is 100 per cent effort.
“If you run around, chase, hustle and bustle like Oxford did tonight, they deserved every bit they got out of the game. We didn’t have any heart, someone to put a foot in, make a tackle, up the tempo.
“When you’re the underdog, with nothing to lose, you give everything you’ve got because you never know what will happen and tonight is a prime example of if you don’t give 100 per cent, you’ll get punished.”
