Alan McCormack spoke to Bees Player exclusively about his return from a three month injury lay off to play 75 minutes in Brentford’s Development Squad win at Cardiff City on Monday.
The 31-year-old was carried off a Bolton Wanderers last October but returned as part of the next stage in his injury rehabilitation.
“Everything felt fine,” said Alan.
“I got a little bit tired at the end but it was nice to come in and do 75 minutes on my return from treatment.
“We’ve put in the hours and thankfully it’s shown there tonight.
“It was only until last week that we first mentioned a game, we hadn’t really spoke a game before that, so it was nice to have it thrown on you; we never mentioned which games we would be back for or pencil in, because anything can happen.
“We’ve had a couple of days where it’s been bad and I’ve had to take a step back, and a couple where we’ve kicked on really quickly – all in all I think it’s been perfect timing.”
Alan has been a regular spectator to Griffin Park during the period of his treatment and has enjoyed the experience.
“It’s been quite enjoyable to watch,” said Alan.
“I’ve not had to endure defeat after defeat and been frustrated at not being able to help the lads.
“I think I’ve been a supporter as much as anyone else on the sidelines and seen the way the lads are playing has been phenomenal; it’s something that we’ve deserved and work ever so hard at training and what all the lads strive to be every single week.
“That bit has been enjoyable, not being a part of a winning team on a Saturday has been the downside.”
He lavished praise on Moses Odubajo, who has been selected at right back for the entire period of Alan’s absence in the First Team.
“Moses has been unbelievable playing there,” said Alan.
“He’s been one of our best players; every single one has been exceptional, but Moses has really stood out.
“He’s had to go in and fill in at that position at such short notice and performed unbelievably well.”
