Alan McCormack thinks there will be a lot of soul searching within the Brentford dressing room after ten man Blackburn Rovers took the three points at Griffin Park this afternoon. Despite seeing Grant Hanley dismissed with 30 minutes to play Rovers scored the only goal of the game late on as Shane Duffy smashed home the loose ball from a free-kick.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Alan said Brentford didn’t do enough to get the three points and needed to be more inventive in possession. “We were a bit one-paced and didn’t really create many chances. We couldn’t break them down as they were very narrow in their set-up and make it difficult for us. When we got it out wide we didn’t have a target man in the box so it was hard to get crosses in.
“They stopped up playing through the middle and then sucker punched us with some sloppy defending. I had the header first and then there was a spare man on the back stick. There are a lot of disappointed lads in there and there are a lot of lads not really speaking at the moment. I don’t think there are any words to say how the players are feeling right now.”
The defeat means The Bees have now lost their last four matches in the league and are now just six points above the relegation zone. Alan said confidence is low within the group right now but thinks that the players need time to try and get over the latest defeat.
“Everybody needs to go off and be themselves for the weekend,” said Dean. “People need to look at their own game. It is too early to start talking about what people did well or didn’t do well. We are at the stage now where confidence is very low. The manager and staff are trying to do everything for us but the players can’t seem to get a win. We played some good stuff at times but we don’t seem to be playing well enough in the final third when it matters.”
There is now a two week break until The Bees are next in action and Alan thinks that break will help to recharge the batteries and refocus the minds ahead of the run-in.
“It will be a help to have the break now given the run that we are on,” said Alan. “We will have a few days away to get the legs back. You get that buzz to be back when you are away from the training ground. You will always get one or two who are enthusiastic for training and some who aren’t quite as enthusiastic. Hopefully 25 will come back and hit the ground running.”
