Alan Judge said Wolverhampton Wanderers executed their game plan perfectly to beat Brentford at Griffin Park on Saturday.
Wolves won 3-0 in the top-of-the-table clash, scoring at the end of the first half through James Henry before Michael Jacobs hit two in the second half.
Alan said Brentford’s football didn’t “click” but added credit had to go to the visitors for their performance.
He added the first half goal, which appeared to be a cross that floated in to the top corner, had a big impact on the game.
“It didn’t click for us today,” said Alan, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live.
“Wolves came here, they had a game plan and it worked for them, fair play to them.
“We won’t make excuses.
“They started well but we got on top.
“The goal in the last minute of the first half was a killer.
“I was behind the lad and it was a cross.
“He scooped it in.
“They got the win and we have to kick on.”
Alan said Wolves defended with men behind the ball and that made it very hard to break them down.
But he added Brentford had to look at why they did not create too many chances.
“When you play away from home, a goal up, score a second on the counter, you will put everyone behind the ball,” he said.
“It is hard to break them down.
“We lacked a bit in the final third.
“We have to look at ourselves.
“Hopefully it will click next week.”
Brentford had been unbeaten in 19 Sky Bet League One matches, a run that stretched back to mid-October, before the loss.
They have slipped to third in League One, a point behind Wolves and leaders Leyton Orient, who have played two games more.
Alan said Brentford Manager Mark Warburton had told them to keep their heads up and the players were confident they would climb back in to the automatic promotion places.
“We have lost one in 20,” he said.
“There aren’t many teams that have done that.
“We have two games in hand on Leyton Orient.
“We are confident we will get back up there.
“All teams have hard games.
“The manager told us to hold our heads high.
“We tried all we could, we got hit on the counter.
“If we’d scored it could have been different.
“For most of the first half it looked like a 0-0 game and they score that type of goal, there is nothing you can do.
“We tried to get the goal back and they caught us on the counter.”
