The Irishman gave his verdict on Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers, a result that leaves Brentford three points behind sixth-placed Ipswich Town with two league matches remaining.
“We’re upset but the lads will bounce back again,” said Alan.
“Even at 1-0 I thought they had no chance but that’s just the way it is, if you score two goals at home you expect to win.
“It was [the performance] good in patches.
“I thought sometimes we were sloppy on the ball; but that sometimes happens when we want to go and score as many goals as we do.
“Overall I thought it was a good performance, the second goal we conceded was unfortunate.
“I thought we won a lot of second balls and did get a lot of space, especially in the first half.
“Once we got the second goal I really thought we’d run out winners.”
The last three games could have seen Brentford claim nine points, but only two were added to the seasonal total.
A last minute equaliser at Derby County last week and Sheffield Wednesday winning a game that they can consider fortunate to, has meant the qualifying for the Play-Offs is not reliant on other clubs dropping points.
“That’s how good this league is,” said Alan.
“You can be running games for 90 minutes and they can score in the 92nd.
“We’ve been hit with that against Derby and at Sheffield Wednesday, we were unlucky not to get a draw.
“I don’t think either team deserved to win the game but they scored; today, we were unlucky.
“We’re already looking forward to next week and hopefully putting it right.”
