Alan Judge feels Brentford should now get the coverage they deserve after qualifying for the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs.
A 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic, coupled with defeats for Reading and Derby County, saw Brentford finish their first season back in the Sky Bet Championship in fifth place.
That fifth placed finish sets up a Play-Off Semi Final against Middlesbrough, the first leg of which will be at Griffin Park next Friday.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Alan said he hoped The Bees achievement of making the Play-Offs would see them get the recognition they deserved.
The midfielder said it was a great way to end the season for players, their families and fans alike.
“I don’t think it has sunk in yet,” said Alan.
“I still can’t believe we are in the Play-Offs.
“People have doubted us all season and I don’t think we have got enough coverage for what we have done.
“Hopefully teams will start to take us seriously now.
“I had a feeling, and Jonathan Douglas said it to me before the game, that we would do it today and lo and behold he was right.
“We are going to enjoy today with the family.
“They have been through everything with us.
“The wives and daughters go through the season with us and they deserve this day too.
“The fans must be loving this at the moment.
“I don’t think that they could even had dreamed of the football that we have been playing over the last couple of years.”
Wigan started Saturday’s match brightly and perhaps shaded the game until a deflected Alex Pritchard free-kick put The Bees ahead midway through the first-half.
After that it was the home side who took control and added to that goal with second-half strikes from Jota and Andre Gray.
Alan felt that once Brentford got themselves in front they dominated the match and deserved their win.
“They played quite well,” said Alan.
“They set up with a new 3-5-2 formation and they kept the ball well.
“We have to give them credit but we got the luck that we deserved, that maybe we haven’t got in other games.
“After that we took control of the game.
“We knew once we got a goal that we could push on.
“I thought we would be too strong for them and we were.
“At half-time the manager told us to just keep doing what we were doing.
“We couldn’t control what was going on in other games but we needed to make sure that we scored and we did straight away at the start of the second-half.
“You could tell what was going on elsewhere and I think I asked the crowd about 20 times in each half.”
Alan and Alex Pritchard have shared free-kick duties this campaign with both players scoring some memorable strikes.
The Irish midfielder said he was happy to let Pritchard take the free-kicks when it suits the Tottenham Hotspur loanee.
“I couldn’t care less who scored,” said Alan.
“It is between me and Alex Pritchard for free-kicks and one has got to be better than the other and he was better than me today.
“I think Jota just stands there but me and Alex know our distances.
“The goal was too far out for me and there was one in the second-half that I left as it was too far out.
“He has got that strike on his where it can move in any direction and it was a great goal.”
