Akaki Gogia said it was great to get his Brentford career underway as pre-season training started. The 23-year-old joined Brentford in the close season when his contract at Hallescher FC came to an end.
He officially became a Brentford player on Wednesday, 1 July, and pre-season training began the same day.
The players had two days of testing before getting out on the pitches for the first time today, Friday 3 July.
“It was great to be here for the first time and meet the players,” said Akaki, speaking to Bees PlayerHD. “I got to learn about them.
“We have done some tests and it was good. I didn’t know anybody, I met the coach and the players for the first time.”
Akaki, who likes to be known as Andy, said he moved to Brentford because they were a big club and he liked the way everyone worked.
He said he considered England the motherland of football and always had ambitions to play here but he came to Brentford because of the Club not the location.
“It was a great chance for me to play in England,” said Akaki. “This is a big club, the Training Ground and the ways of working are great.
“There is a big chance for the Club to play at the highest level. I didn’t know much about the Club but I have watched some games and the football is really good.
"I wanted to play in England, this is different. “England is the mother of football and I wanted to show what I could do. I hope we can enjoy the season. Brentford are at the highest level in terms of the way they work.”
Akaki said Brentford’s style was an important factor in his decision to join.
“I try to play football, that is important for me,” he said. “I try to dribble and take players on. I can also pass the ball and I like to think I’m mixed as a player.
“The coaches want to play football, this is a good way.”
With pre-season training starting and a trip to Portugal on the horizon, Akaki said the new few weeks would be crucial.
“Pre-season is important,” he said. “You have to start the season well. “You have to do the running and tactical work to be ready.
“I am looking forward to getting going with Brentford.”
