Adam Forshaw hailed a “brilliant” performance as Brentford booked a place in the FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round.
The Bees beat Southend United 2-1 at Griffin Park last night with Clayton Donaldson scoring the winner after Paul Hayes’ opener had been equalised.
Adam hailed the performance of Southend goalkeeper Paul Smith, who repeatedly denied The Bees, and said Brentford deserved more than a one goal win.
“We are all buzzing,” said Adam, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“We were brilliant tonight; we passed the ball brilliantly and deserved a lot more goals.
“Their goalkeeper had a Worldy, to be honest.
“We kept passing and passing, we know we have quality in this team.
“In the end it paid off.
“We only won by one but on another day it could have been eight.
“We knew we would keep getting chances, we have to keep pushing and luckily enough Clayton got the goal in the end.
“We thought we could have scored more in the first half, killed the game off.
“We came in at half time full of confidence, the gaffer [Uwe Rösler] told us to keep doing what we were doing.”
Adam said even when Southend equalised – Barry Corr heading home – the Brentford players always felt they would win the match.
“We have bounced back all year,” he told Bees Player after the final whistle.
“We are known for getting late goals and coming back from deficits.
“When their goal went in, I don’t think anyone thought we were going to lose, or even go to extra time.
“That is the morale we have at the moment.”
Brentford will now play Chelsea in a Fourth Round tie at Griffin Park on Sunday January 27.
Adam said the players had discussed it, now they knew it would happen, but it was not top of the agenda.
Brentford entertain npower League One leaders Tranmere Rovers on Saturday and then Leyton orient next Tuesday before Chelsea visit.
Adam said Brentford’s players could not wait to have a crack at the leaders.
“We know it is a definite so we can talk about it,” said Adam.
“We are all looking forward to it but we have a few games before that are really important.
“We are taking the next game as it comes.
“Tranmere is the most important game now.
“It is a massive game for us, we have to be ready.
“We have to put Chelsea to the back of our mind.
“I don’t think anyone wants to play us at the moment.
“We can’t wait to play Tranmere.
“Everyone is really enjoying it at the minute.
“It is all going really well.”
