Adam Forshaw said the Brentford players were “really frustrated” by their defeat to Milton Keynes Dons.
The Bees were beaten 2-0 on a freezing Buckinghamshire afternoon on Easter Monday.
Brentford had control for long periods and most of the chances but MK scored the only goals of the game.
They took the lead when a Dean Bowditch shot dipped, swerved and bounced through Simon Moore and in to the net.
Although The Bees had chances before and after the goal they could not find a way through and Stephen Gleeson sealed the win when he smashed in from 20 yards.
Adam, speaking to The Bees Player Show after the match, said Brentford were unfortunate not to get something from the game.
“We are really frustrated,” said Adam.
“Especially in the second half it was one-way traffic.
“We played them at their game but maybe went too direct at times.
“We were really unfortunate.
“The first goal, to be fair, didn’t half move, I was right behind it.
“And it bounced right in front of Simon.
“They are tough ones to save.
“We got right back in to it and had chances, it just wasn’t to be.
“We hadn’t done too much wrong; we just wanted to keep playing in their half.
“We kept pushing but they got the second goal that killed us.”
Jonathan Douglas also spoke to The Bees Player Show after the match.
He said Brentford played really well but were punished for not taking their chances.
“I think we played really well until the final third,” he said.
“We didn’t take our chances and were punished.
“We have to take positives from the game.
“We out-passed them for 90 minutes; they are supposed to be the best passing team in the league.
“Everything until the final third was good.
“We had a couple of chances in the first half; Bradley Wright-Phillips had a great one [where he headed over] at the start of the second.
“It just wasn’t to be today.”
Brentford’s three in midfield – Adam, Jonathan and Toumani Diagouraga – had control of the game.
Jonathan said The Bees tried to press MK’s well-respected midfield duo – Gleeson and Darren Potter – and said every player worked hard.
“We closed them down in midfield today,” said the midfield player.
“Their two midfield players are supposed to be the best in the league and are good but we pressed them.
“From 1-11 we worked hard, we had a job and it was unfortunate we didn’t score when we had our chances.”
Adam said the players in the dressing room were disappointed not to get something from the match but now had to pick themselves up.
The Bees are third in npower League One with six games remaining.
They are three points behind AFC Bournemouth, who are second, with two games in hand, and five behind leaders Doncaster Rovers, who have played one game more.
The Bees travel to Coventry City next Saturday for their next fixture.
“Everyone is disappointed,” said Adam.
“We couldn’t really believe we had been beaten 2-0.
“On another day, if we had taken our chances and cut out a few errors, we would have steamrollered them.
“We need to put it behind us; we know we won’t win every game.
“We just need to make sure we win on Saturday.
“We have six games left, there is no reason we can’t win them all.
“We showed a lot of intent today, it just wasn’t to be.”
Jonathan said the Brentford squad were ready for the final push and with Club Captain Kevin O’Connor and striker Farid El Alagui now returning from long-term injury it would be even stronger for the run in.
“The squad is in pretty good shape,” said Jonathan.
“We have Kevin O’Connor and Farid coming back.
“They will add quality and it is a matter of time until they are called upon.
“It’s tough but we have done it before.
“We have a few days before the next game.
“We can rest the niggles and get ready.”
More than 2,000 Brentford fans made the trip to Milton Keynes and Jonathan said the supporters have always made a difference, even when The Bees had been beaten.
He said there was still belief in the squad that The Bees would be promoted.
“The fans have been different class in most away trips,” he said.
“Even when we went to Carlisle, [lost 2-0] and didn’t perform they were good to us.
“I don’t think they can be too disappointed in our performance today, we didn’t get the three points we deserved but we passed it well and I am proud to be involved in this team.
“We have to keep going and keep believing.
“We have a squad capable of winning promotion.
“Even losing today we have a lot of positives.
“There is no reason we can’t go up.”
