Adam Forshaw said he was hoping for an open game when Brentford faced Notts County at Griffin Park.
Brentford welcome County to TW8 on Saturday, April 5, for their latest Sky Bet League One match.
The Bees are second in the table, five points clear of third-placed Leyton Orient with a game in hand.
County are 19th in the table, out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
“Notts County are not safe yet and we are still pushing for promotion,” said Adam.
“Hopefully it will be an open game.
“You can only fancy us in an open game.”
Adam spoke to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the 0-0 draw against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
He admitted to being disappointed Brentford did not win the match.
But he said there were plenty of positives to take with the way Brentford played.
“I am personally disappointed not to get the win,” said Adam.
“But we can take plenty of positives and we are a point nearer to promotion.
“We got everything but a goal.
“We were good from the back to the front.
“We played some really nice stuff but we have to stick the ball in the net.
“We can take a lot of positives.
“Their lads are knackered.
“We are disappointed not to have won.
“We got men in the box, tried to get balls through.
“It worked and we pushed and probed.
“We did that more than in the recent games.”
There was a controversial incident when Marcello Trotta got away from the home defence in the inside right channel and burst in to the penalty area.
Kieron Freeman lunged in with a tackle as the striker prepared to pull the trigger and the Brentford man went down.
Referee Eddie Ilderton pointed for a penalty and sent the Sheffield United man off but then spoke to his assistant Mark Dwyer and changed his mind, recalled the defender, now in the mouth of the tunnel, and gave a drop ball.
“I have never seen anything like it,” said Adam.
“The lad made a great tackle but the ref sent him off.
“He has then called him back.
“If you make a decision, give yourself time to think about it and make it.
“It was a good tackle.
“The mentality of this team would not allow it to affect us.
“We kept thinking we would score, it just didn’t happen.”
