Adam Forshaw said Brentford deserved at least a point from their Sky Bet League One game against Gillingham on Saturday and had the chances to have won.
The Bees earned a 1-1 draw in Kent when Farid El Alagui scored a 94th minute equaliser.
The visitors had the better of the first half and conceded against the run of play.
They then hit the post twice in the second half and had other chances before the late leveller.
Adam, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the match, said Brentford knew they would create late chances and it would have been unjust if they had lost.
“On another day we could have won,” said the midfield player.
“I hit the post, Clayton Donaldson hit the post, Shaleum Logan went close with a header.
“It wasn’t to be.
“We always know we will get chances.
“We rely on a mixture of the fitness, our play and that teams tire against us.
“We know we can dominate games when we need goals and that we will get one more chance.
“The goal wasn’t something we worked on training.
“I thought it was too far out to hit and the small right back was marking Harlee Dean.
“He got a great knock down and Farid put it in.
“It’s good to get it in front of the fans, they cheered us on all game.
“It may not have been our best game but we deserved a point, there is no way we should have come away with nothing.”
Adam said Gillingham sat deep and made it difficult for The Bees and windy conditions did not help.
He admitted Brentford’s passing needed to be crisper to open the hosts up.
“They made it really tough for us,” he said.
“They sat really deep when we had to the ball and we couldn’t get in behind them.
“They restricted us.
“Maybe we passed it slower than we normally do.
“The conditions played in to their hands.
“They put long balls in to our box at every opportunity and it made it tough for us to clear our lines at times.”
Gillingham scored at the end of the first half, moments after Clayton Donaldson had seen a goal ruled out for offside.
Adam said Brentford were disappointed to concede a goal against the run of play.
“We were starting to take a grip on the game when they scored,” he said.
“We were passing the ball well and the pitch was in good nick.
“I had a defensive midfield player on me for most of the first half but I was dropping deeper and starting moves from there.
“Their goal came against the play.
“We were disappointed to concede a nothing goal.”
The midfield player said he was confident Brentford would start taking their chances and getting good wins soon.
“It’s a matter of time before it all clicks,” he said.
“When we take our chances we will really start to put teams away, like we did against Sheffield United.
“There is a lot more to come and it is about goals.
“Overall performances have been pretty decent.”
