Tony Craig said Brentford had the opportunities to have won their Sky Bet Championship match against Wigan Athletic but declared the point they earned a good one.
The Bees drew 0-0 at the DW Stadium yesterday afternoon.
They had the better of the first half, without scoring, and weathered a Wigan storm early in the second half before going closest to winning the game late on.
Tony, speaking to Bees Player on the way back from the match, said it was a good point but Brentford could have had all three.
“It is a good point but we are a little bit disappointed as well,” said the Brentford captain.
“We had the opportunities to have nicked all three points.
“It is a hard place to go to, we knew that and we knew what sort of threat they would pose.
“It is a good point but perhaps we were unlucky as well.
“We go in to every game looking to win, we would never think of a draw.
“In hindsight it is a good point but maybe we could have got all three.”
Wigan started with a 4-3-3 formation before switching to 4-4-2 around the hour mark after making two substitutions.
The hosts had chances but Brentford goalkeeper David Button was only forced in to two noteworthy saves, both from Shaun Maloney, one in each half, low to his left and then high to his right.
“They have some good strikers and we saw three of them today,” said Tony.
“They all have strengths but as a unit we defended well.
“David Button is there to make saves when we can’t get there.
“It shows how good a goalkeeper he is.
“He has made some great saves this season.”
Tony said the first half performance was very good.
He added The Bees expected a response from Wigan after the break but were able to counter-attack and create openings of their own.
“We had three or four good chances,” said Tony.
“The first half was a very good away performance, I don’t think much went wrong.
“We knew they would come at us in the second half.
“It was end-to-end stuff and good to watch.”
More than 1,100 Brentford fans made the trip to Lancashire for the match.
Tony thanked them for their support and said he hoped they would be at Griffin Park on Tuesday, October 21, when The Bees face Sheffield Wednesday.
“The fans were superb,” added the skipper.
“They have been there for us all season and I want to say thanks to them for travelling.
“We have some on the train now.
“Hopefully we will see them on Tuesday.”
