Thomas Frank labelled Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Burnley as ‘a well-deserved win’ - and believes that the opening period was his side’s ‘best half of the season’.

The Bees led 1-0 at the interval, with Yoane Wissa’s close-range finish one of 15 attempts at the visitors’ goal. Bryan Mbeumo and Saman Ghoddos added goals in the second half to secure Brentford’s first win at Gtech Community Stadium this season.

“It was a good performance again,” Frank began. “Actually, it was a top, top performance first half. That was us, especially at home.

“The energy, top intensity, winning the ball back, one attack after another, going behind them, crosses – we were really, really on it.

“It’s rare that I say we should have been 3-0 up at half-time, but we should have. It was our best half of the season.”

Frank continued: “Second half, until we scored to make it 2-0, it was more even. It’s always difficult to play 90 perfect minutes, but the first 45 was close to perfect. But we should aim for it and try to do better.

“The 2-0 goal killed it, and we got a well-deserved win, and our first win at home, which is so important.”

Neal Maupay started in a front three alongside Mbeumo and Wissa and the Bees boss was pleased with his side’s chemistry at the top end of the pitch.

“The front three looked very sharp and good together,” he said.

“The first goal was fantastic: we win it back high, Neal plays Bryan, then under to Wissa who scores.

“The second goal was also a fantastic goal, and then the third goal from Saman was goal of the day.”

Frank reserved special praise for the Bees fans and the role they played in Saturday’s victory.

“The fans were fantastic,” he said. “The energy and the dynamic between the players and fans was spot on. 3-0, clean sheet – there are so many positives.

“The fans are so, so important for us, and they did a fantastic job today in backing the team and driving them forward.”
