Ben Mee discussed his desire to make a positive impact on the environment in the latest episode of Sky Sports' Playing for the Planet - before he raced around Silverstone in a Formula E car.

The defender, who signed for the Bees from Burnley at the start of the season, made his move to the club more sustainable by offsetting all the emissions from around his transfer.

“I’m trying to change habits and just do the little bit that I can in my life," he told Sky Sports' David Garrido.

“We donated to Carbon Neutral Britain to offset omissions from my transfer. Ideally, we would have done it in an electric car coming down here but, the way transfers happen, it happened so fast and we weren’t able to arrange that.

“So we ended up offsetting the carbon emissions, which was great, and next time, hopefully, we can do it really carbon neutral.”

When asked why he feels so strongly about climate change, he added: “I think I started taking more of an interest after having children - the future really matters for them and their kids."

Brentford Football Club is always aiming to do more to help the environment, building on what has been done already, to support climate change efforts across the country.

The club has a two-year cycle for our shirts, which has helped to reduce our carbon impact by extending the kit’s lifespan, as well as promoting our vegan options as part of the Veganuary campaign.

At the new Robert Rowan Performance Centre, we have electric charging points in the car park, which is something Mee and a handful of other players make full use of.

“We’ve just moved into this lovely facility here and we’ve got some chargers," he stated.

“I’ve had my electric car for 18 months or so now, it’s something I wanted to do for a while before that.

“Hopefully the country will introduce more charging points to make it easier for people, reduce the cost of electric cars, and provide incentives, which would be great.”

While Mee owns an electric vehicle of his own, it is slightly different to the one he ended up racing around Silverstone.

He said it was an "incredible experience" as he raced around the famous British Grand Prix track.
