Brentford went down to a disappointing 4-1 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night but there were still some bright spots on show.

Thomas Frank was unhappy with the uncharacteristically generous goals his team conceded against Wolves but insisted that the overall display from his side was not reflected in the final scoreline. As the head coach said: "It's one of these days where when it rained, it poured.”

Indeed, there were some silver linings for the Bees. One of those happened in the 67th minute of the game when Mathias Jensen made his first appearance for the club since 12 November.

The midfielder is a creative spark for this Brentford team with three Premier League goals and two assists to his name so far. Only Bryan Mbeumo has more goal contributions than Jensen with the forward in double figures (7G, 3A) for the season.

Jensen also averages 1.5 key passes per game in the league this season – the same as Jack Grealish, Lucas Paquetá, John McGinn and the aforementioned Mbeumo.

Frank also mentioned Keane Lewis-Potter. The forward bagged his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa in a moment that his head coach said “took some weight off his shoulders”.

Although the 22-year-old didn't get on the scoresheet this time, he was easily one of the Bees' best players against Wolves.

Lewis-Potter had two efforts on target with no other player on the pitch having more (level with Wolves' Hwang Hee-chan) while also providing two key passes – including a great cross for Vitaly Janelt that could have made it 2-2 had the German converted.

Finally, the Brentford head coach picked out goalscorer Yoane Wissa who “really upped his game” against Wolves.

The Congolese international provided a superb instinctive finish to Neal Maupay's clever ball that put the Bees back in the game just moments after going 2-0 down.

Much like how Lewis-Potter's goal seemed to help the player move into another gear, Wissa had gone eight games for his club without finding the net before last night (with his last goal coming against Burnley in October) and the forward put in an impressive shift overall.

With the creativity of the returning Jensen and both Lewis-Potter and Wissa starting to find some form, Brentford's poor run of results could end as quickly as against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
