Brentford Under-18s claimed an exciting 6–4 victory over Watford Under-18s in the Professional Development League on Saturday morning.
The west Londoners showed resilience and attacking quality throughout a dramatic contest, with Jai Nwosu’s brace helping the young Bees come out on top in a 10-goal encounter.
Domeiro Bobb-Semple fashioned his side's first opening as he did well to hold off his marker before striking a fierce shot which just went wide of the post.
Despite the positive start, the home side were awarded a penalty on nine minutes as Otis Honor was adjudged to have tripped a Watford attacker. Jamael John-Baptiste took the penalty but Felix Lyon made a great save to deny the striker from 12 yards.
The opener was scored by Yerime Ouattara who did well to receive Naeem Giscombe's cross and curl into the bottom corner of the net.
Brentford doubled the lead through Bobb-Semple who was in the right place to pounce on a loose ball, tucking away well.
Almost instantly after the away side's second, the young Hornets halved the deficit through John-Baptiste as he capitalised on a Brentford error at the back to finish calmly beyond Lyon.
He grabbed his second a few moments later, catching out the goalkeeper from distance with an accurate shot.
The home side completed the turnaround very quickly as they scored a third through Marley Clark.
The Bees ensured that they would go into the break level though as on the stroke of the half-time whistle, Nwosu was in the right place at the right time to find the finishing touch to a goalmouth scramble.
The goals continued to flow in the second period as Kiefer Gorman scored an impressive free-kick which squeezed past Lyon, to give his side the lead.
McDermott's side again found a way to respond and this time it was Honor who caressed a fine shot from 25 yards into the top corner of the net.
Brentford finally took the lead again in the game through Nwosu who scored his second, remaining calm and composed to slot into an empty net, despite oncoming pressure from a number of defenders.
The win was sealed late on as Jacob Hanson fired into the bottom corner of the net just before the full-time whistle.
It was an important three points for the west Londoners as they halt a run of two league games without a win.
McDermott's side now head to Greece in the upcoming week to take on Panathinaikos FC U17s and AEK Athens Under-19s in two friendlies.
