Ilias Chatzitheodoridis was snapped up by The Bees in 2016, having left the Arsenal academy.

"I found the challenges and got past them"

Ilias was discovered at one of The Gunners' training centres near his home of Thessaloniki in Greece. After spending a further year with a local team, he moved to England to play in Arsenal's academy.

He played for the North London side in the UEFA Youth League and the Under-21 Premier League before completing his scholarship in 2016. Later that year, Ilias accepted a trial with Brentford before signing a professional contract with The Bees.

His first B Team goal came during his trial on 20 July 2016, during a 2-2 draw with FC Midtjylland U19 in Denmark.

He made his professional debut in an EFL Cup match against AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow on 8 August 2017. The Bees won 3-1, with Ilias also playing in the following round against Queens Park Rangers.

On 19 January 2018, Ilias joined Cheltenham Town on loan until the summer. He played in every one of the remaining 18 matches for The Robins as they finished 17th in Sky Bet League Two.
