Brentford FC Women’s B Team advanced to the Greater London Women's Football League Anniversary Trophy Final after a dramatic victory over Greater London Premier League side Headstone Manor on penalties. The Bees won the Semi-Final shoot-out 4-1 after a 1-1 draw, with left-back Chloe Webb scoring the winning spot kick. Goalkeeper Emily Boycott kept two out from the opposition as The Bees were perfect from the spot.

After the game, Boycott explained her mentality going into the shootout: “I feel like the pressure is always on the taker rather than myself. I went away before the penalties and focused on what I needed to do. Thankfully today one was right at me, and I managed to save another - it’s always nice to be the hero!”

Headstone had the best of a cagey first half. The away side came closest to breaking the deadlock on 15 minutes. Some good play down the right was followed by a measured cutback to the edge of the box. The subsequent strike looked to be flying into the top-left corner; thankfully for Brentford the ball crashed against the crossbar.

On the hour, Brentford found the opener. A beautifully weighted through ball from centre-midfielder Kasey Clifford found forward Chloe Logie; the striker remained composed and slotted past the on-rushing keeper.

Headstone responded immediately from a wide free-kick. It looked improbable to find the net from so far, but the number six went for it and found the top corner.

Both sides failed to create any real chances of note for the remainder of the game and it finished 1-1, which allowed Brentford to be victorious on penalties.

Head Coach Will Blithing was proud of the performance: “I can’t really put how I’m feeling into words. It was a rollercoaster of a game and I had many emotions throughout. But once we stepped up, I had faith in the five picked to take the penalties and trust in our keeper. Our quality showed at the end of the day.”

Brentford will take on Islington Borough LFC in the Final, which will be held at Bedfont Sports Ground on 22 May (1.30pm kick-off). More details on the final will follow in due course. They have one more league fixture to attend to on 15 May v Hackney Women Reserves.
