Next Up: Everton

Final away game of the season for The Bees this weekend

10 May 2022

The end of the Premier League season is very much in sight and Brentford have just two games to go. The next one of those is at Everton on Sunday, 15 May. The game - the final away match of the campaign - will kick-off at 4.30pm at Goodison Park.

Brentford will be looking for a sixth away win of the Premier League season. The Bees have won at Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Norwich City, Chelsea and Watford. They did, however, lose at Manchester United in their last away game.

The Bees bounced back from defeat at Old Trafford with a 3-0 win at Southampton on Saturday. That win took Brentford to 43 points from 36 games and to 12th in the table. Teams below have games in hand, and some play this week, but Brentford are currently in a group of six sides separated by five points.

Everton beat Leicester City on Sunday, their second straight win and third in five matches. The Merseyside outfit climbed to 16th in the table with the victory and they could continue a good run when they face Watford tomorrow, Wednesday 11 May. Everton are a point ahead of Leeds United, who are 18th and in the relegation zone. Burnley sit between the teams, ahead of Leeds on goal difference.

This will be the third meeting between the teams this season. Brentford won the first in West London 1-0 thanks to an Ivan Toney penalty. Everton won an Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round tie in February 4-1 with Toney again scoring for The Bees.

This will be Brentford’s first visit to Goodison Park in league competition since 1954. That was a Football League Division Two match won 6-1 by the hosts. Everton were promoted that season and Brentford were relegated. The teams have not been in the same division since this current campaign.

Everton are one of the mainstays in the top flight and have been ever-present since the Premier League started in 1992. They were promoted from the Second Division in 1953/54 and have been in the top tier ever since. In those 68 seasons the Liverpool side have won four Division One titles, the FA Cup three times and the European Cup Winners' Cup.

Given this is Brentford's first top flight season in 74 years, the teams have not met in the league since the game in 1954. The sides spent eight seasons in the same division in the 1930s, 40s and 50s with both teams winning seven games, two were drawn. There was an EFL Cup meeting in 2010 that Brentford won on penalties after a 1-1 draw under the Griffin Park floodlights. That was the only match between the sides in 67 years before November.

Tickets for the match are still on sale. All My Bees Members and Season Ticket Holders can purchase. See full ticket information here.

The game will be live on Sky Sports in the UK and Brentford fans can also listen live on Bees Player. Full information on the service can be seen here. Bees fans living overseas should check this page to see if they can watch the game live.
