Julian Jeanvier, Tariqe Fosu, and Fin Stevens netted this afternoon as a Brentford XI beat Leicester City’s Under-23s 3-0 at Jersey Road.

The game saw Julian, Tariqe and Josh Dasilva play 75 minutes while Shandon Baptiste completed the full 90 on a breezy afternoon in TW5.

After a quiet opening, The Bees took the lead on the quarter-hour mark; Jeanvier ghosting in unmarked to turn home Baptiste’s inviting centre. A defence-splitting ball from Fosu created the next opening but Dasilva’s shot from Ryan Trevitt’s cut-back was blocked, Stevens’s long-range volley on the rebound was then comfortably fielded by The Foxes keeper.

The Leicester keeper’s next involvement was much more spectacular as he plunged to his right to keep out Jeanvier’s powerful close-range header. The Foxes didn’t ask too many questions of The Bees backline in the opening 45 minutes with Jonas Lössl only called into serious action once to field a long-range effort.

Brian Riemer’s side almost got a fortuitous second just before the break. Nathan Young-Coombes dropped deep to open up space for Myles Peart-Harris to run into. The Bees midfielder carried the ball to the edge of the box where he looked to square for Dasilva. However, the covering Leicester defender’s last-ditch efforts to slide in and block the pass resulted in the ball deflecting off his knee, past the stranded keeper, and back off the post.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first with Brentford seeing the majority of the ball and Leicester looking to play on the break, but it wasn’t until the final 15 minutes that either goal came under much threat.

The first real effort of note in the half brought Brentford’s second goal. Fosu was allowed to bring down Baptiste’s corner and turn inside the box before firing just inside the far post from 15 yards. Dasilva’s final involvement was to pull an effort narrowly wide with his replacement, Deji Sotona, having an instant impact.

The winger turned his man on the half-way line and drove towards the box. He held off one challenge before laying the ball on a plate for Stevens to crash home at the back post.
