Saman Ghoddos has been named in the Iran squad for two upcoming matches. Iran have qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar at the end of the year. They still have two matches of the qualification process to play and face South Korea and Lebanon in the coming days. Saman is in the squad for the two games.

Iran are in a six-team group for the current stage of the qualification process and have played eight of their ten games, winning seven of them. They are top of Third Round Qualification Group A and have secured their spot in the tournament next winter. Their remaining games will decide who wins the group, as well as which countries will take part in play-offs for other places.

South Korea are second in the group, two points behind Iran, and will overtake them at the top if they win the game between the sides. Lebanon are competing for third place in the group, which will give them a chance of qualifying. Iran face South Korea away from home next Thursday, 24 March, and host Lebanon on Tuesday 29 March.

Saman has been a regular in the Iran squad during the qualification process. He has been involved in nine of the 12 matches in the qualification process since it resumed after the COVID-19 pandemic, which delayed matters last year. He was an unused substitute in the other three games.

Saman has won 31 caps for Iran so far and played for them in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He also has two caps for Sweden. Saman has earned nine of those caps since he made a permanent switch to Brentford at the start of 2021. He has scored three international goals so far, two of them for Iran.
