Midfielder set for European qualifiers

19 March 2022

Brentford B midfielder Roy Syla has earned his first Albania Under-21 call-up ahead of European Qualifiers this month.

The Albanians will face Czech Republic and England over the next couple of weeks as they look to gain more points in qualification.

Friday 25 March sees them host the Czechs in Albania at the Elbasan Arena before they welcome England to the same venue on Tuesday 29 March.

So far in qualifying the side have played five matches, winning twice and losing three times. Both wins came against Andorra home and away with their most recent match a 2-1 defeat away against Kosovo.

They currently occupy third in the group on nine points. They are behind England by just one point but the English have two matches in hand over the side.

Roy joined Brentford B in October last year having spent time on trial Neil MacFarlane's side. The midfielder has turned out 18 times this season for the young Bees, and he netted his first goal in a 6-0 win over Maximum Performance Academy as he hit a stunning effort from distance.

The 21-year-old has been involved with Albania at youth level before as an Under-17, as well for the Under-19 and Under-20 sides.
