After seven seasons in the EFL, Paul Tierney was added to the Select Group of Premier League referees in March 2016. Less than two years later, the Lancashire Official was elevated to the FIFA list of referees for International matches.
The 41-year-old's career highlight so far came in April 2021 when he took charge of the 2021 EFL Cup Final between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. That was the third of four trips to the National Stadium for Tierney, which began with the 2014 FA Vase Final between Sholing and West Auckland Town.
The Bees record under Tierney is good with two wins, three draws, and just one defeat from six previous encounters. It has been more than four-and-a-half-years since Tierney last took charge of a Brentford game, that being our 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough in September 2017.
Prior to that he refereed Sky Bet Championship wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Rotherham United following three winless outings in Sky Bet League One.
This season he has shown 96 yellow cards and one red in 25 domestic and international matches.
