Reflections on Brentford B 2021/22 season

B Team Technical Lead Allan Steele talks to West London Sport

19 June 2022

The sixth season of Brentford's B Team project ended with another trophy and another First Team debut. Brentford B won the London Senior Cup with a win over Hendon on penalties, having lost to Barnet in the Middlesex Senior Cup in another shoot-out. Striker Nathan Young-Coombes joined Brentford B last summer and made his Premier League debut last month against Southampton.

Brentford B spent the end of the season training at Pennyhill Park and West London Sport reporter Dan Bennett spent time with them. He discussed the legacy left by former Technical Director Robert Rowan, who was the architect of the B Team project, as well as the 2021/22 season. B Team Technical Lead Allan Steele talked about the pathway to professional football for the players joining Brentford B.

“It’s really clear that the club want to promote players from within. You’ve seen the number of players that have not only made debuts for the club but have been promoted permanently,” said Allan. “Have a look at Mads Roerselev, Mads Bech, those players like Myles Peart-Harris, Nathan Young-Coombes, Fin Stevens. There are players there that have benefitted from the B Team project.

“What we’ve got to try and do is make sure that we keep working as a group to support those players to achieve their goals which are to play for the first-team, with the understanding that we need to support them when that doesn’t happen as well. A great question is, have we done everything possible to get them to that point and have they?”
