Brentford pair Matthew Cox and Daniel Oyegoke helped England to a win in their first 2022 UEFA European Under-19 Championships Finals contest yesterday. England Under-19 beat Austria 2-0 last night. Matthew played the full match in goal while Daniel was a late substitute in the win.

England had the upper hand and took the lead late in the first half thanks to a goal from Carney Chukwuemeka of Aston Villa. They continued to have the better of the match and scored a second on the hour mark. Alfie Devine of Tottenham Hotspur got the goal. Daniel came on for the final 20 minutes to help Matthew keep a clean sheet and get England the win.

England are on top of Group B after the first match as Serbia and Israel drew 2-2. It took a last-gasp goal from Serbia to give them a draw. England face Serbia on Wednesday, 22 June. The final match in the group is against Israel on Saturday, 25 June. The top two teams in each group will play Semi-Finals. The final will be on Friday 1 July.

Daniel and Matthew have been part of the England Under-19 squad throughout the run to the tournament. Goalkeeper Matthew played in five of the six qualifying matches while defender Daniel appeared in all six, three of them as a substitute. Both have been in the England youth set-up in recent years with Daniel now having 18 games for his country at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-19 level under his belt. Matthew has also played for England Under-20 and has now made ten appearances at youth international level.
