Brentford will play Spanish Copa del Rey holders Real Betis Balompié in a pre-season friendly. The Bees will host the Spanish side at Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday 30 July. The match will be the final one for The Bees before the start of the 2022/23 Premier League season and will kick-off at 3pm.
The game is one of five that The Bees will play in front of supporters ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season, which will start on the weekend of Saturday 6 August. It will be the only home match for Brentford in pre-season. Information on ticketing will follow in due course.
Betis, currently managed by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, won the Spanish cup with a penalty shoot-out win over Valencia. The Seville-based side beat neighbours Sevilla on the way to lifting the Copa del Rey and also finished fifth in La Liga, the Spanish top tier. Betis reached the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League as well last season, losing to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt after conceding in the last minute of extra time.
Brentford’s pre-season programme is now almost finalised. The Bees will be in south-west Germany for a pre-season training camp from Tuesday 12 July until Tuesday 19 July and will play VfB Stuttgart on Saturday 16 July. It is planned there will be another game in the area on Tuesday 19 July, which will be announced when confirmed.
The Bees will play a match in the London area on Saturday 9 July. They also have a game against VfL Wolfsburg, which will be played in Wolfsburg on Saturday 23 July. Any further information on these fixtures will be announced when confirmed.
