Latest Team News …

Everyone is fit. There are no injury concerns; everyone who was available last night is available for the squad on Saturday.

Dealing with Manchester United defeat …

I’m not happy to admit that we’ve lost more games than just the one last night, for various reasons that just hit me harder. In elite sport, it is a lot about controlling your emotions. I am an emotional guy and I show them sometimes; most of the time I am consistent, level-headed, and positive. For me, it was the first time this season that the loss was harder to take. That feeling of it being unfair, although nothing is unfair in football. The feeling that I had in my body was that we 100 per cent deserved something because we had performed so well. It is what it is. With the 24-hour rule I have five more hours to be disappointed.

Liverpool and Manchester United were very impressive in different ways. Yesterday, the first-half was a ten out of ten performance. The next thing we need to learn or do a bit better is to avoid the first goal like yesterday. If we can keep this intensity and mentality, and play the Brentford way, then hopefully we can be an asset to the Premier League. The most important thing is to bring that energy level on Saturday.

You can’t perform if you are anxious or not thinking positively. You need to perform with a smile on your face and be brave. When we are at our best, we are brave and playing forward. We did that last night; I was so impressed and pleased with that performance.

Wolverhampton Wanderers …

Bruno Lage is a very good coach. It is well documented about the job he did at Benfica and the job he’s done here. There was that little bit of pressure on him at the beginning of the season because they played well but lost some games. I’m very pleased that he’s got out of it. You can see that he’s a good coach; he is consistent and him and his staff are doing a very good job. They’ve added to the good foundations that Nuno put in place there.

They are well structured and have a great defensive mentality. They have some great players down there; I think Conor Coady is a key for their defense. When you play with a back three/back five like we do, it is very difficult to break down. They are a group of players who know each other well and who want to run and fight for each other which means a lot.

It will be a huge challenge. Bruno Lage has very smartly built on that foundation that Nuno built when he was there. They defend unbelievably well in a low and mid-block with a good structure and big desire. They are a challenge for any team in terms of creating chances. Their numbers of goals conceded, backed by expected goals conceded, is very low. It is a big challenge. We, me and the players, need to bring the same energy as we did against Manchester United and the fans need to bring the same performance off the pitch because we are going to face a team that I think has performed as well as Manchester United this year.

Ivan Toney …

We know that goalscorers need that goal. For Ivan it is always the team and the win that is the most important thing but, on top of that, it’s fantastic to get that goal. It is very important for him and very important for the team. For me, he was up to his normal standards yesterday and against Liverpool which is more important for me. Ivan is a confident person and player and will always go and believe in himself. We all know that we are bit more confident when we are in that flow. The goal was very important for Ivan and the team as well.

Josh Dasilva …

It means a lot to the team and his teammates. Kristoffer Ajer trained with him today and just said ‘what a player’. There is a very good player who hopefully we will see playing for us. I think it’s still four weeks away from him being involved in the squad, if we build him well. That could potentially be a tiny bit quicker, but it definitely also be longer.

Transfer window …

I said it before the season and at the beginning of this transfer window, I think we have a strong enough squad to compete in the Premier League. We showed that last night; the first 60 minutes were amazing and showed what this group of players is capable of. I do think that a player or two would bring energy and extra awareness to the squad, but I don’t think it’s essential at all. We are always prepared, and in the market, if we can find the right player in the right position with the right character.
