We're unbeaten in both our games so far this season under Peter Bankes; a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa in August and October's dramatic 2-1 win at West Ham United.
That trip to E20 was the 11th time that Bankes had refereed one of our games, stretching back to our 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in April 2016. Those 11 games have seen only two Brentford defeats with further wins arriving against Eastleigh in January 2017, Forest again in September 2018, and Middlesbrough in February 2020, a game which saw Ollie Watkins net a dramatic late winner at Griffin Park.
The Merseyside Official, who is in his third season in the Select Group 1 of top flight referees, has taken 13 matches so far this season across the Europa Conference League, Premier League, Sky Bet Championship, and EFL Cup, showing 56 yellow cards and one red.
Bankes averages a free-kick every 0.79 tackles, the highest ratio of all Premier League referees this season, while his average of 25.33 fouls per game is the third-highest among this season's top flight referees. His average of 5.67 yellow cards per game is also the highest mark in the top flight.
