Our Manchester City Hollywood Hero

Jack Spencer-Jones gets special treatment at midweek match

3 January 2022

Our Principal Partner Hollywoodbets is proud to highlight and reward the great impact of companies and individuals in our local community with the initiative Hollywood Heroes. So far this seson, individuals and companies who worked with our Community Sports Trust have been chosen Hollywood Heroes. Jack Spencer-Jones was nominated as the Hollywood Hero for the game against Manchester City last week.

Jack was nominated for his fantastic voluntary work in grassroots sports. Jack first visited Griffin Park in Martin Allen's ‘Great Escape’ season and has been a Bees fan ever since. Jack’s other love is cricket; he plays for Boyne Hill Cricket Club in Maidenhead.

This season, Jack has singlehandedly founded the first girls and women’s cricket teams at the club. He noticed there was no provision for women and girls, so set out to create opportunities for them to play.

Jack contacted schools in Maidenhead to see if any girls were interested in cricket. He invited girls to a training session and, after many signed up, they were then encouraged to bring their friends along to try and boost numbers. In mid-June, Boyne Hill girls’ section played its first match. By the end of the season, they had played 14 more. Jack also organised a girls’ tournament at Boyne Hill where 12 teams attended, which was also a first for the club. Currently, there are nearly 30 girls in the section and the club will be entering three teams in the Berkshire Youth Girls’ Leagues for next season.

While organising the girls’ section, Jack also set about starting a women’s section. In July, Jack held the first women’s section training evening and, by the end of the season, more than 40 women had been down to the club. Jack has built on the momentum this winter as the women have been training in the evenings and played their first match indoors in November. They have also entered a winter league, which starts in January, and will enter two teams in leagues next summer.

The Club would like to thank Jack for his great work in creating an opportunity for women and girls to get involved in sport - he has put in many hours of his own time to make this project successful. His voluntary work is inspirational; he is a true Hollywood Hero!

Hollywood Heroes was launched in conjunction with Principal Partner Hollywoodbets to highlight and reward the positive impact of volunteers and individuals in our local community. Hollywoodbets have provided nominees with boardroom hospitality tickets to say ‘thank you’ for all the hard work they have put in. Housing provider A2Dominion and the Hounslow Community Foodbox have also been recognised this season.
