Marcus Forss joins Hull City on loan

Striker completes Transfer Deadline Day switch

31 January 2022

Brentford’s Finland international striker Marcus Forss has completed a Transfer Deadline Day loan move to Hull City. The 22-year-old finalised the switch today, Monday 31 January, after completing a medical. He will remain with the Sky Bet Championship side until the end of the season.

Marcus has played seven Premier League games for Brentford this season, starting one. He has scored six goals in cup competitions, including four in a Carabao Cup win over Oldham Athletic. He could make his Hull debut against Preston North End on Saturday, 5 February.

This will be a second loan spell for Marcus. He spent much of 2019/20 on loan at AFC Wimbledon and hit the ground running, netting seven goals in his first six games including a first career hat-trick against Southend United. He scored 11 goals in 17 league appearances for The Dons in League One before his loan was cut short by injury.

Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “Marcus is a striker we have a lot of belief in. For the future benefit of Marcus and Brentford, it is important that he gets more consistent game time. He needs to start a lot of games and show week in, week out that he is a striker that can score goals.

“Marcus did that very well when he was on loan at Wimbledon, and we believe he can help Hull for the rest of the season. This loan move will also help Marcus and Brentford. It will make him a better player than he is already.”

Marcus has been with Brentford since 2017, initially joining as part of the B Team group. He was moved to the First Team squad in the summer of 2018 and scored on his professional debut in an EFL Cup tie against Southend United in the August of that year. In four full seasons as a Brentford First Team player, he has scored 19 goals in 74 appearances.

Ten of Marcus’ goals came in 50 appearances last season as Brentford won promotion from the Sky Bet Championship. He scored the winner in the Championship Play-Off Semi-Final against AFC Bournemouth. He scored seven times in the Championship last term.

Marcus has been a key part of the Finland squad over the past 18 months. He has earned 11 caps and scored two international goals. Marcus is one of only eight to have earned ten or more international caps while with The Bees and one of only three to score two of more international goals.
