Jan Žambůrek has completed a January Transfer Window move to Viborg Fodsports Forening. The 20-year-old finalised his move to the Danish Superliga side today, Wednesday 12 January, after completing a medical. He leaves Brentford for an undisclosed fee after three-and-a-half years in West London, subject to international clearance.

The Czech Republic youth international joined Brentford in the summer of 2018, initially as part of the B Team group. In February 2019 Jan became the first player born in the 2000s to appear in a competitive match for the Club when he made his debut against Hull City at Griffin Park. Aged 18, Jan was officially promoted to the First Team squad in August 2019 and made his full league debut against Blackburn Rovers in November.

Jan made 19 appearances for Brentford in 2019/20 as part of the squad that finished third in the Sky Bet Championship. He was on the bench for the Championship Play-Off Final defeat to Fulham and played nine games last season as The Bees won promotion to the Premier League. He also spent part of last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town. Jan leaves having played 29 times for Brentford in all competitions, 23 of his games coming in the Championship.

Phil Giles, Brentford FC Director of Football, said: “Jan is moving to a good club, and we know their Head Coach, Lars Friis, very well from his time with us. Jan is a B Team product who made a good contribution to the First Team in recent seasons, but who now needs to kick on playing regular games. On behalf of everyone at Brentford we wish him well in his future career.”

Jan came through the ranks at Slavia Praha in his native Czech Republic before joining Brentford B. He has been a regular at youth international level for the Czech Republic in recent years. He has 49 caps from Under-15 to Under-21 level, scoring five goals.
