Brentford have recalled goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe from a loan spell at Burton Albion. Ellery has spent the first half of the season on loan at the Sky Bet League One side, joining them in the summer. Brentford exercised an option to recall him today, Monday 3 January, and he will resume training with The Bees immediately.

Ellery found himself as second choice goalkeeper for most of his time with Burton. He was a regular in the matchday squad but did not make a League One appearance. He did play three Papa John’s Trophy matches, keeping a clean sheet against Wycombe Wanderers.

This was Ellery’s fourth spell out on loan. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, after signing a long-term contract with The Bees. He has also spent time with Boreham Wood and Viborg Fodsports Forening, in Denmark, and has been named in the Brentford matchday squad twice.

The 22-year-old joined The Bees as a seven-year-old and was part of the original Brentford B squad formed in 2016. He has played 28 club games so far and also represented England at every level between Under-18 and Under-21. He was part of the 2017 Toulon Tournament winning side and has been a regular in England Under-21 squads over the past 18 months. In total, he has 18 caps for the Young Lions across four age groups.
