Bryan Mbeumo signs new contract

Attacker commits to long-term deal

26 January 2022

Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo has signed a new long-term contract. The 22-year-old put pen to paper on the deal late last week. His contract will now run until the summer of 2026. There is a Club option to extend that for an extra year.

Bryan is in his third season as a Brentford player, joining from Espérance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne in August 2019, just before his 20th birthday. He quickly established himself in the starting XI as The Bees finished third in consecutive Sky Bet Championship seasons, winning promotion last summer. He has grabbed himself three Premier League goals in 20 appearances and contributed three more assists. Bryan has seven goals in all competitions this season.

Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “I am very pleased that Bryan has decided to extend his contract with us. He has been an important player for us since he arrived in 2019. He had a fantastic first season in the Championship and just as good a follow-up year last season, as he developed other parts of his game. His Premier League performances have been even more impressive.

“As everyone knows, Bryan has hit the woodwork seven times this season. Margins have gone against him, but he has given us a lot. He has been a constant threat to our opponents.

“I am also very pleased that we have a chance to maximise Bryan’s potential. We are only seeing the start of what he will be able to produce. He has a brilliant future in front of him.”

Bryan arrived in West London from Troyes AC having been with them since he was 14 and making his professional debut when he was 18 in the French top flight. His first season with The Bees was interrupted by the COVID-19 outbreak but he was prolific as part of a front three with Saïd Benrahma and Ollie Watkins. He scored 15 goals in 42 Championship appearances as The Bees finished third in the table before losing the Play-Off Final. His 16 goals in all competitions included the last competitive First Team goal scored by a Brentford player at Griffin Park, against Swansea City in the Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg.

Bryan scored another eight Championship goals last season as Brentford again finishing third. He won the penalty that Ivan Toney scored to put The Bees ahead in the Play-Off Final win over Swansea, one of 12 assists he contributed in all competitions. Bryan has scored against Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United and Watford in the top flight this season. He also scored an Emirates FA Cup hat-trick against Port Vale earlier this month, becoming the first Brentford player to score a treble coming on as a substitute. Bryan has played a total of 119 games for The Bees so far and has scored 31 times

Bryan first played for France at Under-17 level, featuring in a game against Italy. He was part of the Under-20 group before he joined The Bees and made three further appearances for his country. Bryan played six times for France’s Under-21 side, scoring once.
